Your Responsibilities

We are looking for a new colleague to join our Art & Design Faculty in Berlin on a parttime basis (20h/week) starting 01.10.2026, who shares our vision of excellence in education and who is committed to making a difference in the lives of our students and staff. The position is initially limited to two years, with the possibility of extension.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a passionate educator and creative practitioner, with strong artistic skills and the ability to integrate theory and practice, who will prepare students for careers in expressive game design and development. In this exciting role, you'll deliver engaging modules, leverage your expertise to create real-world connections, and foster an inclusive learning experience that values diverse perspectives and artistic exploration. You will work in a creative and supportive setting that encourages innovative projects as well as artistic research and teaching.

You’ll play an instrumental role in delivering high-quality, future-oriented education, empowering students to develop the skills and mindset needed to thrive in a globalized and rapidly evolving world. Your contributions will have a lasting impact on the academic journey of your students and support the continued growth of both the university and its vibrant international community.

Key Activities & Responsibilities:
  • Conducting introductory and advanced courses in the areas of basic design and computational concepts, fundamentals of computer science and software architecture, and technical and creative implementation of computer games, combining theoretical content with artistic and technological practice
  • Planning and implementing interdisciplinary research and development projects
  • Grading student work and supervising seminars, projects, bachelor/master theses, ensuring high academic and didactic standards
  • Establishing industry collaborations and partnerships
  • Participating in university administration and committee work, actively supporting the success of UE
  • Advising prospective students and contributing to UE’s outreach activities
  • Contributing to the conceptual design of new study programmes and the continuous development of existing curricula
  • Actively shaping the Game Design programme, including strategic, organizational, and academic development, and willingness to take on organizational responsibilities such as programme coordinator or programme leader
  • Collaborating across disciplines with related study programmes at UE

Requirements for the Professorship:
  • University studies completed with a Master’s degree or equivalent in Game Design, Game Development, Interactive Media, Design, or Computer Science, or a related field
  • At least three years of qualified professional experience, with two years outside a university, in the field of the professorship or in a related domain
  • Proof of one of the following:
    • Exceptional artistic achievements during at least two years of successful professional activity relevant to the field of the professorship (if applicable, demonstrated by an external evaluation of exceptional aptitude for artistic work (Gutachten zur besonderen Befähigung zur künstlerischen Arbeit))
    • OR exceptional aptitude for scientific work, usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate and/or the quality of scientific publications

Your profile

  • Experience in teaching courses in the areas of basic design and computational concepts, fundamentals of computer science and software architecture, as well as the technical and creative implementation of computer games
  • Reputation in designing and realizing expressive computer games for various platforms
  • Solid understanding of current developments in the gaming industry, digitization of media, and their social and cultural impact, with the ability to critically reflect and bring interdisciplinary experience
  • Strong grasp of the artistic and creative potential of digital games and interactive media and their social and cultural relevance, with enjoyment in experimenting with technological and creative design
  • Ability to implement digital games and prototypes in industry-standard development environments (e.g., game engines, version control software)
  • National and international work experience
  • Extensive network within the local (Berlin and German) game industry
  • Ability to teach courses in English (German is an advantage)
  • Publication and research activities are strong assets
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Commitment to applied research, student engagement, and curriculum innovation
  • Willingness to pursue further training in university teaching methods

The award of the title Professor by the University of Europe for Applied Sciences is contingent on the approval of the Ministry of Science, Research, and Culture of the Federal State of Brandenburg/Germany.
